Encouraging Truths Devotional Series (Day #8)

You are God’s possession … forever (Eph 1:7-8)

Do you realize that you are God’s possession?

He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession … (Titus 2:14 – underline added)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Pet 2:9)

You are no longer a slave and servant to sin … instead you are now God’s possession, owned by Him (Rom 6:15-20). The Scripture makes this point clear in many different ways to make sure we understand it.

He bought you

When a person buys something, that thing becomes theirs. God bought you and you now belong to Him!

You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. (1 Cor 6:20)

… the church of God which He purchased with His own blood … (Ac 20:28)

You were bought at a price … (1 Cor 7:23)

He ransomed you

Remember that a ransom is paid to release a prisoner. God paid the ransom price to buy you back from sin … to be His.

… Christ Jesus … who gave Himself—a ransom for all (1 Tim 2:5-6)

… the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life—a ransom for many. (Mt 20:28)

He redeemed you

Redeeming is purchasing back something. God redeemed you back to Him from belonging to sin.

We have redemption in Him through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. (Eph 1:7-8)

… You (Jesus) redeemed people for God by Your blood … (Rev 5:9 – parenthesis added)

You are God’s possession. Owned by Him. You are His!

Take a look at this:

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. (Mt 13:45-46 – ESV)

YOU are the pearl of great value that God found. He decided to give His Son (everything) to buy you!

You are so valuable in God’s eyes that He bought you for Himself. You are God’s possession.

So, what does it mean to be God’s possession?

You are His forever … eternally saved and secure!

No one can take you away from Him:

My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (Jn 10:27-29)

He will not lose you:

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. (Jn 6:38-29)

He will not send you away or return you to the place He bought you from:

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” (Jn 6:35-37)

Nothing can separate you from Him:

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 8:38-39)

God has gone a step further and put a seal of ownership on you guaranteeing your future with Him:

When you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed in Him, you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory. (Eph 1:13-14)

A seal signifies a finished transaction (Jer 32:9-10; Jn 17:4; Jn 19:30), ownership (Jer 32:11-12; 2 Tim 2:19), and security (Esth 8:8; Dan 6:17; Eph 4:30).

In what different ways does the Scripture show how God made us His (See above)?

What different ways does Scripture show that you will ALWAYS be His (See above)?

What does it mean to you that you are God’s possession?

Fully grasp that you are God’s possession forever!!!

Praise, worship, and thank Him that He bought you to be His possession at great cost to Himself!
