How Likely Was It That The Jewish Messiah Was Jesus?

Anyone who has read the book of Daniel in the Bible should understand that the Seventy “Sevens” (Dan 9:20-27) vision revealed to Daniel by the high angel Gabriel gives the reader a very clear picture of Messiah’s (a.k.a. the “Anointed One”) arrivals and departure. When studying this prophetic passage, Yeshua (Jesus) could be clearly identified as the anticipated Jewish Messiah, simply based on chronological accuracy. There are people in history such as Anna and Simeon (Luke 2:21-28), some wise men (Matt 2:1-12), John the Baptist (John 1:29), Joseph of Arimathea (Luke 23:50- 52) and others, who seem to have understood this timing with pinpoint accuracy. Their expectations were fully met. The prediction of the ‘seventy-weeks’ was either a gross and impious imposture, or else it was in the fullest and strictest sense God-breathed. And is that not the purpose of all prophecy from the “beginning,” to know how God would fulfill all His great promises and restore all of creation (Acts 3:21), through a Messianic King-Priest whose foretelling began in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3:15)?

The Seventy “Sevens” vision started at the time when there was an issuing of a decree to restore Jerusalem (Dan. 9:25). The only decree that qualified was Artaxerxes’, which was issued to Nehemiah (Neh 2:1-8). Nehemiah started rebuilding Jerusalem on 1 Nisan, 3317, on the Jewish calendar, or March 5, 444 B.C. This began the countdown of the first sixty-nine weeks of years. A mathematical interpretation of Daniel’s 70 weeks of years can be seen as follows: 69 weeks (Dan 9:25), multiplied by 7 years (Dan 9:24), multiplied by 360 days (30 day month based on 1260 days divided by 42 months in Rev 11:2-3). This computation yields 173,880 days. Adding these days to March 5, 444 B.C., the date that is derived for the Anointed One’s entrance into Jerusalem is March 29, 33 A.D. That is the same exact day of Christ’s triumphal entry (Luke 19:28-40). Additionally, in the sixty-ninth week, it is foretold that the Anointed (Isa 61:1) would be “cut-off” (Dan 9:26), just as Isaiah predicted (Isa 53:8). This also occurred exactly as it was foretold. In the seventieth week, unexplained in this passage, the Suffering Servant (Isa 53) will reemerge, without decay (Psa 16:10), “to put an end to sin…and bring in everlasting righteousness” (Dan 9:24). This is upcoming on the Day of the Lord (Isa 2:12,13:6,9; Ezek 13:5,30:3; Joel 1:15,2:1,11,31,3:14; Amos 5:18,20; Obad 15; Zeph 1:7,14; Zech 14:1; Mal 4:5; Acts 2:20; 1 Thess 5:2; 2 Thess 2:2; 2 Pet 3:10).

So if you have read this – the gig is up! You have no excuses when you meet God. You have just read a small sampling of the precise knowledge that the Old Testament has to offer; with an enormous amount of irrefutable evidence to bolster the case of who the true Messiah really is (a.k.a. God’s Son, the Anointed One, the seed of David, the Redeemer, Deliverer, etc…). In the book of Hosea 13:4, the truth of the Scriptures is summarized succinctly: “Yet I have been the LORD your God since the land of Egypt; and you were not to know any god except Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.

Have you accepted the “one and only” Savior yet? “Surely I am more stupid than any man, and I do not have the understanding of a man. Neither have I learned wisdom, nor do I have the knowledge of the Holy One. Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His Son’s name? Surely you know!” (Prov 30:2-4) Yes I do…praise Him! “Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a Son, and she will call His name Immanuel [God with us]” (Isa 7:14). “And [the Son] will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6b). “Kiss the Son before He becomes angry, and you die where you stand. Indeed, His wrath can flare up quickly. How blessed are those who take refuge in Him” (Psa 2:12). The Old Testament possesses all you really have to know to come to a saving knowledge in Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ). Daniel 12:2a, likely written between 540 and 530 BC, reinforces this as it states, “many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life“…this long before the New Testament was distributed to all the churches (approx. 100 AD or so). But leaving no doubt about it, in this day and age we have the complete and perfect revelation of God (1 Cor 13:10). We could know who the Messiah (Christ) is without a shadow of a doubt!
